Up in the Air
Saturday night by myself and catching up on some movies I’d been wanting to see, starting with this one. I wouldn’t call this a great film, but it has a tone to it I like and find all too rare in films; that is, it’s got the light and dark of real life in it. There were quite a few moments where I laughed out loud, and then was sobered by some of the very real-seeming exit...
Spray
Decent enough weekend. Daughter liked the new, more grown-up linens I got her for her room. Ended up spending the most at CVS Pharmacy than I ever have, I think, with lots of travel-related containers and toiletries as well as fish oil tablets and something called Cholest-Off on a whim. You really get fishy burps from the former, perhaps cholesty-burps from the latter.
Weird start to weekend...
Alberta Cross - Broken Side of Time (2009)
Like a lot of the better debut albums, this isn’t really the first release from this band, made up of Swedish and English members. They recorded a mini-album and EP before this, neither of which I’ve heard. Since then, they’ve extensively toured in support of several disparate artists and bands such as Oasis, The Shins, and Justice.
That won’t give you a clue to their...
Good Day Partial Sunshine
Took a PTO day to get new tires. Took a good 45 minutes longer than I was told, but that was okay because I walked across the lot to a french pastry cafe run by a real, cute little Frenchwoman from Marseille and had a pretty good croque monsieur (grilled ham, swiss and bechamel sauce) with fruit and a rich hammerhead (expresso and coffee), while I read about 100 pages of Shantaram, which really...
We're Not in It for the Money
I’m always fascinated when I see a band name so odd or off-putting that it lets me know those involved really aren’t interested in fame. And so I salute you, Cancer Bats
Yay Phil
I’m not much of a golfer, though I have clubs and enjoyed the half-dozen times I’ve played. I also almost never watch it on TV and didn’t pay all that much attention the first three rounds of The Masters this week/weekend, but after hearing that San Diego’s own Phil Mickelson was legitimately in the hunt, I decided to catch some of the final round today, and that ended up...
Assessing
The week so far:
4/1 is a big day at my work (all quarters are), so the week or two after there’s always a kind of hangover. More people take time off, while those of us in the office shift down from fifth gear to third or maybe even lower. Got a few things done today but not much. Will ramp back up soon enough as I can’t get behind on the rest of April.
Saturday night I watched...
Skunks vs. Bunnies
Very nice Saturday with my kids, walking around, eating sandwiches, buying squishies and funky monkeys, watching bunnies in a pet store and seeing Clash of the Titans 3D. As far as the movie, it’s pretty decent. Lovely Greek countryside (I think) when real land was needed, pretty imaginative sets and CGI when not. Sam Worthington is a low yield star but I guess he’ll do until...
